3.STAIN REMOVAL
If you own an older log home you may need to have the old finish removed to bring your home to a fresh new state. Depending on the job, we use a variety of stain removal systems to safely remove old finish or grey from logs i.e. hand grinding, glass blasting or the use of an earth friendly log wash. At BC Log Finishers we look at the species, age, and condition of your logs to determine the process best suited for your home.Glass Blasting

4.LOG PRESERVATIVE
We recommend applying a natural preservative before staining to further protect against termites, carpenter ants, insects, rot, mold and mildew.
Testimonial:
After having BC LOG FINISHERS restore our log home to like new, we noticed bits of sawdust and tiny holes on the logs of the house. We brought in a specialist to confirm that the treatment BC LOG FINISHERS had applied to the logs was actually driving insects out of the logs that were previously infested. He told us that the only thing he could have recommended once the infestation was noticed was to strip the logs completely and apply this same treatment before re-staining. HAPPILY we had opted for the treatment and were already on the way to seeing our log home bug free!5.STAINING
A breathable stain with UV inhibitors will need to be applied to protect and bring out the natural beauty of your log home. When starting fresh we recommend using one of a number of time proven, long lasting Eco-friendly stains. At BC Log Finishers we work with you to determine the right product for your home.Eco-Friendly Stain Finish
6. CHINKING / ENERGY SEALANTS
Are your heating bills higher than they should be? Are you concerned about water infiltration or rodents and bugs? At BC Log Finishers, we use flexible sealants between the logs to weatherproof and critter proof your log home. You can choose between wide contrasting ‘chinking’ or a thin line of color matched ‘energy sealant’.
Your home may be beautiful but unfortunately not all log homes have been built to today's standards and methods. If not sealed properly some homes remain drafty and use much more energy to heat than they should. Some older homes even allow rain water to seep in and access for critters to enter. If you have any gaps between your logs they should be sealed up to create a dead air space and to eliminate a nesting environment for critters. Log home Chinking and Energy Sealants were created specifically to seal between the logs on milled or scribed log homes. One application makes any log wall completely weather-tight. You can consult with our experts at BC Log Finishers to find the application best suited for your home.
CHINKING
Chinking is a flexible, textured compound that seals the wide open gaps. Even though it looks and feels like traditional mortar, it's not. Chinking is an acrylic that adheres to logs and stretches to maintain a tight seal by following log movement.Energy Sealants
Energy sealants are similar to chinking but made specifically to blend into the log walls. The sealants are textured to match the visual characteristics of wood. They are created for homes with smaller gaps between the logs. They easily tool to a smooth, professional finish, virtually disappearing into the walls after applied. They soften the lines on log walls and accept the color of wood finishes. In fact, sealants can so closely match your walls, some people won't even notice the seams are sealed.Chinking and Energy Sealants
